Frequently asked questions

What is pip value?
Pip value is how much one pip of price movement is worth in money for your position. For most forex pairs a pip is the fourth decimal (0.0001); on JPY pairs it's the second (0.01). Multiply the pip value per lot by your lot size to get the value for your position.
How do I calculate pip value?
Pip value = pip value per standard lot × your lot size (in standard lots). For EUR/USD that's about $10 per pip per standard lot, so a 0.50 lot position is worth $5 per pip. This calculator does the conversion for each instrument.
What is the pip (point) value for gold and indices?
Gold and index CFDs are quoted in points rather than pips. In this tool gold uses $10 per point per standard lot and US30 uses $1 per point per standard lot. Contract sizes vary between brokers, so confirm the figure on your platform.
What's the difference between a standard, mini, and micro lot?
A standard lot is 1.0, a mini lot is 0.1, and a micro lot is 0.01. Pip value scales with size: if a standard lot is worth $10 per pip, a mini lot is $1 and a micro lot is $0.10. The conversion table shows all three.
Does account currency change the pip value?
The preset pip values here are quoted in USD. The currency selector changes the display symbol only — it does not convert exchange rates, since that needs live FX data. If your account isn't in USD, treat the figures as USD-equivalent.
